Stuart D'Arcy
Waking up in sand scattered beds, rubbing his sleepy eyes as the sun edges its way above the roofs of his beach side suburbia, the air is crisp and laced with the sweet smell of salt spray, a routine he adores, an itch that will never be satisfied. A young boy makes his way to the old ocean to converse in ways only a true surfer knows how. This is the way of the ocean, the way of his life, the way of a surfer.
With a pre-disposed love of the sea, a young man took to learning with his hands how to shape a board that would become part of him, an extension of his body. Knowledge and talent overthrew him and he was engulfed in not only the mesmerizing call of the ocean but the craftsmanship of the board.
Naturally a profession progressed along with a reputation that was
and still is hard to surpass, using nothing but a few tools and his hands to feel his way around a board, understanding every curve, along with the individuality of each person and their needs.
A young boy who began with nothing but love in his heart, grew into a well revered and highly talented man, his path crossed with many of
the greats such as Martin Potter Asher Pacey and Layne Beachley, and through this he was able to not only create something incredible, but also share it with the world.
However the dividing platform that has kept his sterling reputation was something only a true man of the sea could understand and recreate, each board not only thought out in great detail but also hand-shaped, amounting to over 25,000 boards that have passed through his hands.
The boundaries of his reputation are non-existent, the D’Arcy name rings throughout 15 countries, expanding his horizons and his knowledge of the world.
So after 23 years, a man who has seen the world, surfed every corner of the ocean, made boards for people that changed their lives, broken world records for speed and quality, D’Arcy still has the ocean in his blood, he still rises to see that sun, and he still adores every moment conversing with that old sea.
